Ingredients

  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • cup buttermilk
  • Butter, to taste Optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Place your flour in a large bowl.
  • Make a “hole” in the middle--use your fingers or a spoon to dig.
  • Pour the oil into the hole, then gradually add the buttermilk and combine with a fork until roughly mixed. Don't over mix! You want the dough to be chunky and lumpy.
  • Knead the mixture with your hands in the bowl, the lay the dough on a flat, lightly floured surface.
  • Roll the dough with a pin, aiming for a thick consistency. (No one likes thin, wimpy biscuits!)
  • Cut circles out of the dough using a glass jar or cookie cutter.
  • Place on a cookie sheet and let them rise for 5-10 minutes.
  • Place a dab of butter on the top of each biscuit, then bake for around 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
